Traffic Characterization for QoS Provisioning in High-Speed Networks

چکیده
We are developing a new approach to traffic characterization motivated by the traffic-queue analysis techniques of effective bandwidth and the use of log moment generating functions. A generic representation of traffic exhibiting nonGaussian marginal and long range dependence is modeled by three dissimilar stochastic models. Generated traces of the model traffic are put to test in a G/D/1/1 system by computer simulation. Experimentation demonstrates that the marginal and autocorrelation pair of descriptors do not adequately characterize traffic such that different input models with similar marginal-autocorrelationproduce vastly different queuing behavior. The ability of the new approach to describe and differentiate stochastic traffic is shown to be robust with regard to queuing results, whereas marginal and autocorrelation prove insufficient.

The next-generation wireless networks such as the fourth generation (4G) cellular systems are targeted at supporting various applications such as voice, data, and multimedia over packetswitched networks. Providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees for these applications is an important objective in the design of the next-generation wireless networks. In this paper, we overview the issues and ...

We present an approach to Service Provisioning with Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in ATM networks. The ATM network provides services to users every T̂ units of time. Each service is characterized by its one way route, its input traffic constraints and its provided QoS. The input traffic constraints consist of the maximum input rate and an upper bound on the burstiness curve. The QoS prov...

ÐNow that cellular networks are being called upon to support real-time interactive multimedia traffic such as video tele-conferencing, these networks must be able to provide their users with quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees. Although the QoS provisioning problem arises in wireline networks as well, mobility of hosts, scarcity of bandwidth, and channel fading make QoS provisioning a challengi...

The increased need for Quality of Service (QoS) in today’s IP networks has concentrated a lot of research and implementation efforts. Carefully designed and managed priority services are essential for quality-demanding traffic, especially in large-scale IP-based environments where aggregation of flows is extensive and a variety of traffic types co-exist. Although individual mechanisms have been...
